New hurricane season outlooks issued, following record start
60’S AND CLOSE TO 80 WITH A GOOD CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TOMORROW. WATCHING THIS CLOSELY AS WE MOVE TOWARDS THE TROPICAL PEAK OF HURRICANE SEASON WHICH IS SEPTEMBER 10. GREAT NEWS -- NO ACTIVE TROPICAL THREATS FOR THE CAROLINAS OR GEORGIA. LET’S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SEASON SO FAR. NINE NAMED STORMS AND TWO HURRICANES. MANY OF THEM HAVE IMPACTED THE SOUTHEAST. CRISTOBAL, FAY, BERTHA, ISAIAS. TWO OF THEM HAVE DIRECTLY IMPACTED THE CAROLINAS. WE WILL LOOK CLOSER AT THE REST OF HURRICANE SEASON, AS COLORADO STATE, ONE OF THE BIGGEST UNIVERSITIES WITH RESEARCH, RELEASED THEIR FORECAST FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON. CALLING FOR 24 NAMED SYSTEMS. SO FAR, WE HAVE HAD NINE. THAT MEANS WE WILL HAVE AN ADDITIONAL 15 SYSTEMS, 10 HURRICANES. THEY WORKED FORECAST FIVE. AN ACTIVE SEASON. Colorado State University, a leader at tropical research and forecasting, updated their 2020 Hurricane Forecast Wednesday. Experts are now calling for 24 named systems, 12 hurricanes and five major hurricanes. The numbers include the storms that have already occurred this year. WYFF News 4 Chief Meteorologist Chris Justus says the 2020 hurricane season is off to a record start. Chris said there has never been another year with this many named storms this early in the season. A La Nina pattern is setting up going into the peak of hurricane season and warmer-than-average Atlantic Ocean temperatures are leading to unusually high tropical activity, Chris said.

A La Nina pattern is setting up going into the peak of hurricane season and warmer-than-average Atlantic Ocean temperatures are leading to unusually high tropical activity, Chris said.
